terminal fareAirport food is rarely good and almost always overpriced.
So it came as a nice surprise to see David Coffey's award-winning pies on sale at Dublin airport recently. The Pie Kitchen's lamb and rosemary, root vegetable and Irish cheddar, chicken Chardonnay, Balti chicken and steak and stout varieties are being served in the Thomas Read bars in Piers A and D and in the SkyView bar in the food hall above check-in. At €6.95 served steaming hot, they're a bit of bargain. Once the new Pier D bar opens, in the autumn, you'll be able to order mash on the side with your pie.
boxing cleverLunch boxes, and what to put in them, are almost back on the agenda again. Whatever you send to school with your children, there's always the nagging worry that by lunchtime your lovingly packed homemade goodies won't be as appetising as they could be. Lunch Box Fruit Chillers are a simple idea that kids will love. The gel fruits freeze in three hours; one placed inside a lunchbox will keep the contents chilled for up to five hours. Each fruit is printed with details of the nutritional benefits it offers, so you can sneak in a bit of learning, too. Available from Arnotts, Kitchen Complements, Stock Design, Atlantic Homecare, Clerys and Superquinn at €7.99 for a pack of three and €10.99 for five fruit. No fighting over the strawberry, please.
