BOTTLES OF THE WEEK

High Altitude Viognier-Chardonnay, Mendoza, Escorihuela 2003. This summery white from Argentina is so delicious that I triple-checked the price. Only €7.99 - and it comes in a tall, expensive-looking bottle, too. Juicy peach and pear flavours with a lemony tang lead into a pleasant, dry finish. Dig in. From Carry Out off-licences countrywide (including Mulhuddart, Clondalkin, Kildare, Roscrea and Cork); usually €7.99.

Château Les Hauts de Caillevel Bergerac Rouge 2002. Dominated by Merlot, this exuberant red beats the socks off a lot of Bordeaux at €12 or more. With a peppery flourish for added interest, it's smooth and not too tannic - enjoyable with or without food. The winemaker, Marc Ducrocq, will be pouring samples this afternoon and tomorrow in Terroirs. From Terroirs, Donnybrook, Dublin 4, www.terroirs.ie, one bottle free with every 12 purchased in current sale; also Michael's Wines, Mount Merrion, €8.99.
