TOP OF THE CLASS

Sadbh McCormack is this year's winner of the NCAD/Newbridge Silverware design competition and her collection of jewellery will go into commercial production at the beginning of 2007, as well as being added to the student silverware collection at Collins Barracks. The collection comprises an innovative necklace made of four inverted crescent shapes, a theme carrying through bracelets and earrings.

The scheme is the first in a pioneering five-year agreement between NCAD metalwork students and Newbridge Silverware, engineered by Derek McGarry, acting head of ceramics, glass and metals at NCAD. The project is a model collaboration between industry and academia in that students get to transform their ideas into reality in a commercial environment. Research areas for future projects include lighting design and houseware.

A SHOE-IN

To celebrate its sponsorship of a major yachting event in Mallorca, Camper has launched a limited-edition 1960s-inspired sailing shoe called Imar. Inspired by the sailors who took part in the first long-distance regattas, it has a rubber and latex sole for extra grip on deck, but it also doubles up as a trendy new urban shoe. It's on sale in a number of Camper shoe shops internationally, including Dublin, and costs €130.
