Africa Day takes place around the country on Sunday, with free events and family days in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford. The Dublin celebration – in the grounds of Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park – runs from 11am to 6pm, with a free shuttle-bus service from the Parkgate Street bus stop up to the event.
You can expect live music over three stages, including world and folk music from Colours Afrobeat Foundation and Kíla, gospel, jazz, hip-hop and African and Irish DJs. There will be dance performances, drumming sessions, and a children's zone (we love the name, "Mount Kiddimanjaro"). An African bazaar will show traditional crafts and traditions; and lots of African food stalls will help you refuel during the day.The best dressed competition is sure to be keenly contested, with a parade of the finalists before the winner is announced at 4pm.
