There has been a quiet revolution going on in the world of lash enhancement, and the cosmetic industry is definitely having a mascara moment. With the growing popularity of false lashes, companies must compete to give lashes the curl, length and volume today's femme fatale demands.
Givenchy Phenomen' Eyes (€26) uses its unique applicator to coat even the most hard-to-get-at inner lashes, and once you get the hang of its vaguely weapon-like head, it gives impressive results.
The Lancôme range of mascaras is a make-up artist's favourite, and its latest offering is the talk of the industry. Oscillation (€35) is the worlds first vibrating mascara, coating lashes all the way around each hair. Again, it takes a little getting used to, but would fuller and longer lashes be an incentive?
YSL's Everlong Waterproof (€29) is a classic in an iconic gold case. It gives outstanding performance and doesn't budge even under water. Rows of tiny brushes fan out lashes and keep them separated, and the shade Ever Burgundy is right on trend if you fancy a change from the usual black or brown.
Love your skin
Who wouldn't love a product that lifts and freshens the complexion and gives a youthful bloom? The swing against invasive methods of looking younger mean that women are demanding much more than moisture from their skincare.
Clarins is master of the make-up base and new addition Extra Firming and Tightening Lift Serum (€65) melts into skin, smoothing and firming like a mini "lift". Wear under moisturiser and await the compliments.
A new product in the Crème de la Mer range always grabs my attention, and Hydrating Infusion (€110) doesn't disappoint. It is used under the cult moisturising cream to optimise moisture levels and prep the skin, to get the maximum benefits from the cream that follows. Worth the money if you have it.
Clinique's Superdefence SPF 25 (€38.50) targets the stresses that contribute to ageing skin and creates a barrier to protect against environmental damage, leaving skin firm and supple. Fabulous texture, too.
Go for the glow
Although the weather dictates that we cover up, there's no need to abandon a gentle glow on the body. Unless you are under 20 years old, with perfect alabaster skin, your body will look healthier, toned and slimmer with a bit of colour.
The Aussies know a bit about tanning, and their best selling fake tan, Vani-T (from €31.10), is now available here. Using all-natural and organic Australian ingredients, its non-sticky and quick-drying formula has fans such as Cameron Diaz and Claudia Schiffer. Smells lovely, too. Fake Bake self-tanner (€34.95) has my vote as its olive brown colour washes off to give a lovely natural colour, with no hint of the dreaded orange. Up to now, I kept it a shade lighter by diluting it with body lotion - a little messy, but effective nonetheless. Now it's available in a fair shade that will suit paler skin tones. Your face can do with a pick-me-up, too. I balk at applying a colourless cream to my face, as there's nowhere to hide if you don't get it just right. St Tropez Tan Rapide (€27.50) is not only tinted, but the colour develops in just two hours if you can't wait to look sun-kissed.
