Do you think you have a healthy lifestyle?
It's a very healthy diet, but I get hardly any exercise. That would be my big failing. I've been a vegetarian for about 25 years and my wife is a good cook so we eat a lot of fresh veg and even grow our own organic stuff. I just went off the idea of eating meat. It wasn't based on any philosophy or not killing poor defenceless animals. It happened gradually. Chicken was the last thing to go.
How often do you exercise?
I don't have any regime. I could do with one really. I live in the countryside so there's no excuse. If I went to Dublin I'd get more exercise. I have this thing that I don't like exercise for the sake of it. I'd rather shift some compost around but the reality is I rarely do that.
Do you get your five a day?
I don't count but I'm pretty sure I do. Because of my diet, I eat a lot of fruit and veg.
Do you worry?
Any worrying I do would be in response to some phone call I'd get from my kids. They're in college and when the phone rings, it's usually because they are in some small spot of bother that they need advice with. My daughter rang me the other day and she wanted to know how to make porridge. That was a great relief.
What do you do to relax?
I like to do absolutely nothing. I live in the countryside and with my line of work, I've got a lot of time on my hands. I like to just sit and daydream and let time go by. I'm very good at that.
What's your unhealthiest habit?
My lack of exercise. Sitting around is my most unhealthy habit. I've never smoked. I rarely go to the pub, but I suppose myself and my wife would go through a fair few bottles of wine at home. I hope she doesn't mind me roping her in on that.
