Some 20 miles away at Carne, Barry Kehoe is also handling the sale of Chour, an interesting stone-built cottage on 4.5 acres of land with stunning views over Lady's Island Lake and out to sea. The property is due to be auctioned on June 10th, when it is expected to make about £150,000.
The land still has the remains of several stone dwellings that are thought to date from the 13th century.
During the first world war, the property was a military base for the British navy and was used as a look-out post for German submarines which were then active around Tuskar Rock.
The current owners bought Chour about 10 years ago and renovated the house over several years. It now has a large kitchen with exposed brick walls and a solid-fuel range, a livingroom and bathroom downstairs. Upstairs, there is one double bedroom and four singles. Chour is a 30-minute drive south from Wexford and five minutes from Carne.
