Castlethorn Construction, one of Dublin's biggest house-builders, is planning to build 57 apartments in three blocks adjacent to Dundrum Castle on Ballinteer Road, Dundrum, Dublin 16. The apartments would be located in three four-storey plus penthouse level blocks on a site near the proposed Luas line, the proposed bypass, and Dundrum shopping centre.
Castlethorn plans to do preservation work on the Dundrum Castle site: Dundrum Castle is a derelict but listed building in the middle of a residential development on Ballinteer Road. Castlethorn will rail it off and make it safe, and provide landscaping, lighting, and footpaths.
If granted permission for its complex by Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, the developer plans to build three apartment blocks, each with six one-bed apartments of 550square-feet; 10 750-square-foot two-bedroom apartments, and three 1,700-square-foot penthouse-level apartments with large balconies.
Castlethorn Construction developed new homes at Holmwood in Cabinteely and Avoca in Blackrock in the past few years.
Meanwhile Astondale Investments, who had been refused permission to build 26 apartments in a three-storey block nearby, is hoping to proceed with its plans following discussions with the county council.
Elsewhere, Heaslon Properties has lodged an application to build 96 new homes - 48 apartments and 48 duplexes - at The Island, Chapelizod, Dublin 20. Planning permission has been granted to the Commissioners of Public Works to convert, refurbish, and extend the Deputy Master's House at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin 8, from residential use to gallery use.
Permission was refused for development of a new 140-bedroom four star hotel at 50, 51, 52 and in the rear car park of 48 and 49 Lower Leeson, Dublin 2. The applicant was Ferdella Limited.
