One of Dublin's best addresses - hence its covetable position on the Monopoly board. Its large redbrick houses started out as the homes of self-made men of commerce, builders and professionals who, by the turn of the century, were paying £1,000-plus for its fine terraced and semi-detached homes. By 1922, prices had shot up to around £2,300. By 1950, a professional newly-wed couple could snap one a house here for £6,000 and sell it again on their silver wedding anniversary, 25 years later, for around £40,700. Prices jumped in the late 1970s though, and by 1978, the entry level to Ailesbury Road was £85,000 to £100,000. By 1989, you could still buy a house there for £150,000. A year later, one changed hands for £275,000. In 1993, it crept up to £390,000, while at the end of that same year another made £625,000. In 1996, the price was £865,000 and the road became millionaires' row in 1997, with the first £1 million sale. Today, a good house costs upwards of £2 million.
