An interesting redevelopment opportunity is likely to arise at Adelaide Road, Dublin 2, next spring if planning permission is granted for an apartment scheme on the site of the synagogue and an adjoining house.
The Dublin Hebrew Congregation has lodged a planning application for 55 one, two and three-bedroom apartments over an underground car-park. Part of the synagogue will be retained to provide about 2,000 square feet of offices. Paul Newman of Douglas Newman Good, who is advising the congregation, expects to secure in excess of £1.5 million for the site. The proceeds are to be used to redevelop the synagogue at Rathfarnham Road, Terenure, Dublin 6. The Jewish congregation has dwindled over the past 20 years from more than 6,000 to about 1,000 at present.
