Cost-cutting on chairs and closets
BELFAST-BASED Garuda Design (048 9069 2626) has a warehouse sale with 50 per cent or more off most items. Its Presotto wardrobe is ideal for telly addicts as it features a 31in Loewe TV and DVD player inset into its beige high gloss lacquer doors. Inside, there is long and double hanging space as well as glass drawers and shelving. Storage boxes are included.
Garuda also has a swish walk-in closet by Misurraemme, which has smoked reflective glass doors and a slick wenge interior. It was €20,216 and is now half price at €10,108.
And there’s great value in chairs by Andrew Martin. The Oberon chair is down from €3,020 to €1,156.The Mercury chair is €987 (from €2,091). Both are upholstered in a grey wool with a damask design.
A crack-down on walnut furniture
FINELINE FURNITURE (056-7751878) is moving into a new showroom in Kilkenny City. It has a couple of hand-crafted solid wood dining tables reduced by 40 per cent to clear from its Bennetsbridge shop. These were designed by Tommi Hughes and made using traditional cabinet-making skills.
There’s a walnut elliptical pedestal table with eight Vivianna high-back chairs with cream leather seats. This set is down from €5,800 to €3,480, a reduction of 40 per cent. A second dining table is oval in shape and extendable. This beech pedestal table also comes with eight matching Milano chairs which have brown leather seats. This dining set has been reduced to €3,652 from €6,087. Fineline has a final clearance sale which starts tomorrow at 9.30am.
Waterloo wages a war on designer prices
INCREASE THE net worth of your bathroom with some well appointed pieces of sanitaryware. Dún Laoghaire-based Waterloo (01-284 2100) has gone to battle on prices knocking up to 40 per cent off designer bathroom suites. Pictured is the Barrel sink and base, a classic piece of bathroom creativity by Philippe Starck for Duravit. The ceramic sink is set on a macassar real wood veneer base. It was €2,650 and has now been reduced to clear at €1,650. Another stylish buy is the Fogo, a double ceramic basin and macassar veneer vanity unit, also by Starck for Duravit. This comes with a freewheeling storage unit. Its down to €1,395 from €2,833. These prices do not include taps, which start from €150.
Hot Danish Design kitchen at a cool price
BLACKROCK-BASED Danish Design (01-278 9040) has a neo-Georgian, L-shaped display kitchen that will work well in period homes. The lacquered vanilla units have mahogany-coloured Dakota granite worktops and a solid-topped rosewood island, which doubles as a prep zone and social perch.
The design includes matte chrome handles, pull-out drawers, pull-out larder, vegetable baskets, a bin system and halogen lights in the above-counter glass cabinets. In addition there’s a Franke sink and Franke Doric tap with built-in water filter. This kitchen was €34,000 and has been reduced by 53 per cent to €16,000. This price includes fitting, delivery and VAT.
The display appliances are also available at discounted rates. The Britannia dual fuel range, hob and hood costs about €4,500 and is being sold for €3,000, a reduction of 33 per cent. The Miele dishwasher is raised for perfect ergonomics. It has a RRP of €1,999 and is on sale for €500 – a reduction of 75 per cent.
Meadows and Byrne’s sale presents value in stylish garden furniture. Delight in the cheap thrills of its PVC all-weather rattan Biloxi set, which was €1,450 and is reduced by 58 per cent to €595. It features a two-seater sofa, two armchairs with ecru cushions in a water-repellent fabric and a coffee table. This is a suite that works indoors and can be moved outdoors, when the weather obliges.
Arizona sofa price razed
A THREE-SEATER floor model of the Arizona sofa, upholstered in a crisp 100 per cent linen Romo Monari Lime Stripe, that retails at €92 a metre, is available at the Sofa Factorys Mill Street Store (01-454 6877). It is reduced by 56 per cent from €3,437 to €1,495. It has fully removable covers for easy cleaning and comes with 100 per cent duck down feather cushions as standard. The frame comes with the Sofa Factory’s standard 10 year guarantee.
Lounge for less
FORMALITY IN Glasthule (01-280 8071) starts its restructuring sale today. All stock furniture and pots are reduced by 50 per cent. Best of the sale offers is the Tribu Techno lounger in stainless steel and white resin which has been halved in price down from €2,816 to €1,408. Other great offers include hand-made French terracotta pots which are now between €68 and €245 and are exclusive to Formality. The sale runs until mid-August.
