THE EAGER BEAVER store in Temple Bar, Dublin 2, is best known for its vintage clothing, but the owner Robert Woodnutt and his wife Siobhán have branched into the property market and are renting out apartments over the shop.

In business for 25 years, the original shop on the corner of Crown Alley and Cope Street was demolished last year and rebuilt at a cost of €1.8 million. Woodnutt, who is one of the original traders in Temple Bar, says the old warehouse was demolished because it was “a bit of an inelegant heap”.

Woodnutt hired interior designer Jenny Bogan of Inspired Living to do the interiors because he wanted someone “a little bit different with an artistic mind”. The apartments have a bohemian feel with colourful mosaic tiling, muslin curtains and individual art giving a gallery feel. Rents, however, are anything but arty: one- and two-bed units are available at between €1,100 for the smallest unit and €2,000 for the penthouse. Lee Fleming of dublinlettings.com says the rents reflect “the new build, the layout and the location”.
