Big W, a new retail concept from Woolworths and part of the Kingfisher Group, is to open a 100,000 sq ft store at Yorkgate Shopping Centre in Belfast. Its product lines will range from those in Woolworths to B & Q and Superdrug. The deal represents an overall investment of £10 million sterling at Yorkgate and, according to Keith Shiells of Lambert Smith Hampton, the arrival of Big W will provide an important shot in the arm for the centre. The 15-year lease provides for a rent of £8 per sq ft. The store will employ a staff of up to 250. There are currently eight Big W stores in the UK.
