Connemara: €4mA Modernist style house just outside Clifden has made the most of the surrounding views of the countryside and Atlantic, writes Fiona Tyrrell
A Modernist-inspired home perched on Clifden's Sky Road has wide views over the Atlantic and a cool contemporary fit out.Knight Frank Ganly Walters is asking €4 million for the large house, which is six miles outside Clifden.
It was built as a home for a businessman with local links who has now decided to sell. As a newly built house, buyers will have a reduced stamp duty bill of around €90,000.
The design by Cantrell & Crowley has not surprisingly placed a huge emphasis on the spectacular views outside and the house incorporates lots of glazing. There are also two large terraces, one plumbed for a hot tub. The 451sq m (4,853sq ft) house has oodles of space and a contemporary open-plan layout, well suited to entertaining.
The house is entered at first floor level via a stone bridge. This leads into an entrance hall with dramatic sea views. At this level there is a reception room, with its a home cinema and an adjoining kitchenette/bar. There is also a small study on this floor.
The main living area is on the lower level. This open-plan living/kitchen/dining space is spectacular, with stark white walls, double-sided gas fireplace and floor-to-ceiling windows.
There are five bedrooms, two on the first floor, three at ground floor level. The main bedroom has hardwood floors, its own balcony and a swish en suite.
Kitchens are Poggenpohl, floors are marble or solid wood and the house has been given the full SmartHomes treatment with mood lighting, multi-room audio system and flat panel TVs in all bedrooms and the main living rooms.
