One of the most expensive homes in Blackrock, Co Dublin, was sold just before Christmas for a price believed to be in the region of £2.5 million.
A Dublin solicitor is thought to have purchased Tudor Lodge, a large semi-detached Victorian house at South Hill Avenue, off Mount Merrion Avenue, in a deal brokered by the Lisney agency. Lisney director Peter Kieran refused to comment on the sale of the property, which stands on over half an acre of grounds. It adjoins a similar house, St Camillus, which is owned by the Order of St Camillus.
The sale puts Tudor Lodge high on the list of the most expensive houses sold in Dublin in the last 12 months.
The most expensive house sold at auction in 1999 was Killiney House, a large period detached house on two acres on Killiney Hill Road owned by rock star Jim Kerr. It sold for £2.75 million under the hammer.
In Dublin 4, a six-bedroom semi-detached house on Shrewsbury Road changed hands for around £2.5 million after auction.
Other top selling houses of 1999 included Adare House, a detached house on Silchester Road, in Glenageary, which sold for around £2.4 million prior to auction.
Both Lisney and Sherry FitzGerald have already scheduled a number of top-end properties for auction in March and April and these will be launched on the market in the coming weeks. Owners of expensive properties are reluctant to sell too early in the year, preferring to wait until both house and garden look their best in spring or summer.
