Bright, white house warmed with candy stripes and a wood-burning stove

THE MAGNIFICENT white leather Max Divani sofas take centre stage in the minimalist livingroom of Dalligan House (see page 4). The three-seater (€3,670) and two-seater with a chaise (€6,020), came from Verona Living (051 336000) in Waterford.

After the expense of the sofas, the candy striped cushions from Dunnes Stores made sense, and they provide the perfect lift in an otherwise muted colour scheme.

What looks like a built-in fire is actually a front for a sophisticated OKA 35 system behind which is a stove with a back boiler. This energy-efficient system, imported from Germany, heats the entire house. A similar system will cost €4,500 excluding installation costs. For further information contact Harry Arndt (087 2923641).

The three mirrors from Stainless in Style (051 850934) aren't all they seem either. Two are hinged at the top, with one hiding a temperature gauge for the fire while the other is a switch to control the intensity of the fire.

The Soligor telescope isn't a design statement but is used by the owner to check out the stars.

The shagpile rug adds texture to the room: this and the lamp were bought at Galleria Design Galway (091 764546) and the Eileen Gray E1027 side table came from Design Classics Direct and cost €285.
