More turmoil on Shrewsbury Road where the Chester Beatty Library and its one acre of grounds is due to come on the market later this year. While a raft of developers are lining up to get their hands on the site for a million pound apartment complex, Dublin Corporation seems to have other ideas. It has just listed the 1950s library for preservation but not the older buildings on the site. No doubt, this will please the residents who are determined to keep the road as it is. The listing certainly curtails the options for whoever is prepared to buy the site.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the road, plans have been scotched for an apartment development on the site of four existing houses. While a small number of neighbours were so enthusiastic about the plan they booked apartments for themselves, other residents came out strongly against it - but with land values on the road going through the roof, the plan could well resurface in the future.
