We’ve heard of food mountains but apparently Irish people are sitting on a clutter mountain. According to classified ad site Gumtree.ie, Irish households hoard €1.2 billion of unused goods - amounting to €683 per person.
A survey found that two thirds of people (67 per cent) admit to keeping common household items they don’t use any more while a further 20 per cent are hoarders. It says 12 per cent of people don’t know how to get rid of items and others don’t know how to price it (26 per cent). Old stuff isn’t worthless – Gumtree.ie has developed the GTP – Gumtree Price Index – to help people price items. The average price for dvds and cds is €7, for kitchen appliances is €43, for toys is €15 and for computer games is €24.50 .
