What and where

Cuilleen Cottage, Cuilleen, Carna is set in the heart of the Connemara Gaeltacht. It is a three-bedroom traditional-style old stone cottage with a stone outhouse and gardens, for sale for €400,000.

Describe the cottage

The cottage has been lovingly renovated and extended, creating an enchanting, traditional character which is enhanced by three original internal stone walls, stone archways, a beautiful open fireplace and a cast-iron spiral staircase.

There is tiled flooring throughout the downstairs and wooden flooring upstairs. It has a large sun/diningroom which provides incredible views of the Twelve Bens and the gardens.

The cottage is set on around an acre and is encased by a private garden with characteristic rock outcrops.

Why are you moving/selling?

We are not able to make as much use out of the cottage as we have done in the past due to school commitments for our four-year-old twins in the UK and hope that another family can enjoy and love the cottage just as much as we have done.

What is the best thing about it?

On entering the cottage you immediately feel the cosy atmosphere which oozes with peace and tranquillity.

It is a real tonic. However, the main bedroom is specially attractive due to its large size, stone walls, vaulted timber ceilings, en suite and dressingroom. The views of the Twelve Bens and the gardens from the main bedroom, the sunroom and upstairs bedroom are an added bonus.

And the neighbourhood?

We are blessed with the most beautiful sandy beaches. Moyrus beach is around a mile from the cottage. The area is off the tourist track, and is simply an undiscovered beach paradise.

At the back of the cottage there are lakes where we've had, on many occasions, wonderful barbecues.

Carna, which is a mile away, has pubs with live music and there are several village shops.

In short, if you love outdoor life, culture and tradition then this is heaven.

Who would you like to have your home?

It is the perfect holiday home and has been successfully let over the last two years as such and thoroughly enjoyed by all who have stayed there. More importantly, we would hope that whoever buys it will appreciate and love its charisma and retain its traditional spirit.
