YOU can always rely on Herman Wilkinson auctioneers to come up with something different. Normally they sell house contents, but on September 27th they are putting an entire house on the block – the proviso being that the buyer takes it away piece by piece.
The house in question is a tiny cottage in Roundwood, Co Wicklow. It was built as a stop-gap home while its owner was renovating a larger house on the same property. Now she’s decided to sell the contents of the larger house, and to offload the cottage at the same time. Auctioneer David Herman says its a unique opportunity for DIY experts to get their hands on some high quality materials at a good price.
Windows, doors, plasterboard, panelling, plumbing and wiring accoutrements are all there, ready to be dismantled and taken away. Meanwhile the contents of the main house being sold include lots of antique style pine, as well as beds, pictures, mirrors, right down to the crockery and cutlery.
