Spanish Resorts:Holiday homes being built in Almeria in southern Spain on what the developers claim is Europe's "first desert golf resort" are available from Ultra Villas, based in Cheltenham, England.
Two thousand new homes are planned for Desert Springs, a development of mansions, villas, townhouses and apartments.
The homes, costing from €250,000 to €1.4 million, are in an "elevated position between the fishing village of Villaricos and the town of Cuevas del Almanzora".
According to the developers, property values at the resort have doubled in the past four years. An American-style 18-hole golf course has been built along with a golfing academy. A tennis academy and a 60-bedroom hotel with a health spa is also planned.
The Almeria region is only now being discovered by British and Irish buyers, according to the developers, who says that beaches are relatively deserted, even in the height of summer.
The development is 45 minutes from Almeria airport, one hour 40 minutes' by car from Murcia airport, and two hours by road from Alicante airport
