Co Wicklow: €630,000 Oscar-winning movie director Jim Sheridan is selling his pretty Glendalough cottage. Bernice Harrison reports.
Film director Jim Sheridan is selling his Wicklow retreat which he has owned for the past 10 years.
The cottage in Glendalough is as picturesque as its surroundings with its views overlooking the lower lake and its three-quarters of an acre of gardens.
It's larger than it first appears from its modest frontage.
There is 148sq m (1,590sq ft) of space and, while the house has been a sometime holiday home for its current owner, it is spacious enough and sufficiently well appointed to be a permanent residence.
Over the years the original layout of the period cottage has obviously been changed as the house has been extended and modernised.
In its current layout Camaderry has three bedrooms, two with en suites and one also has a walk-in dressing area.
The porch, with its pitched roof, is suitably cottagey and inside to the front of the house are two bedrooms, one on either side of the hall.
Beyond this is a room-sized reception hall.
A large livingroom with a curved bay window opens off this as does a diningroom, large eat-in kitchen and the third bedroom. The curved bay with its floor-to-ceiling windows in the livingroom is one of the few modern design features in the house and it is designed to take best advantage of the views of the lake.
Otherwise the house is full of period cottage-style touches including cast-iron fireplaces, timber panelling, and polished timber flooring.
It's not a showy house in its interior design - the rooms are decorated in traditional country style.
Outside, as well as the traditional-style garden, is a stone annex which has a room and a shower room, and could be best used as a home office or guest accommodation.
Camaderry is for auction on May 17th by HOK Country with a guide of €630,000.
