Co Roscommon: from €275,000One of the last Upper Shannon tax relief schemes to be launched is Port Alainn, an exclusive development of holiday homes set around Tara Marina on the River Boyle at Knockvicar, Boyle, Co Roscommon.
Sixteen homes ranging in size from 125-171 sq m (1,350-1,850 sq ft) are being offered for sale with Section 23 type tax allowances. Prices for the houses range from €275,000 to €360,000.
Port Alainn is located between the town of Carrick-on-Shannon and Lough Key Forest Park, where a €130 million development including 300 houses, an 18-hole golf course and a major new hotel are to be built. The River Boyle joins the Shannon just above Carrick and those who have already availed of waterfront homes in the area include former minister for justice Sean Doherty, the current minister Michael McDowell and President Mary McAleese.
A marina berth - increasingly scarce on the north Shannon - is available to all homeowners in Port Alainn. The developer is Paddy Gilboy of Tara Marina.
