ShopFront: It's rare to find inexpensive lighting that's reasonably well-designed. This lamp we found at Roches Stores won't be a modernist's cup of tea, but it has an elegant shape with a long slender stem and a solid base.

The amazing thing is that it costs €just €19.99. It's small and neat, so buy a few and use them in pairs on dressers, hall tables, bedside lockers and other small pieces of furniture.

You may want to change the shade - it's not bad, but a darker colour, black for instance, could look great with the burnished gold finish of the stem.

Roches also sells oval-shaped shades separately for about €20 and these work well with the lamp too.
