AUCTIONEER Damien Matthews is holding a country house sale next sunday, May 29thwhich might make for a pleasant day out. The venue is Annesbrook House, Co Meath – a 30-minute drive from Dublin. The sale features 350 lots, with estimates ranging from €100 up to €30,000.
Highlights include a large antique brooch, left, in the form of a Prince of Wales plume, of solid gold encrusted with diamonds (€3,000-€5,000); a five-door Regency bookcase (€5,000-€8,000); and a 1969 TVR6 sports car (€12,000-€18,000). But there’s all sorts of other interesting stuff including old leather suitcases, delph, books, gilt mirrors, rugs and silver.
Viewing is from 11am to 5pm on Friday and Saturday, May 27th and 28th and on Sunday , May 29th, from 11am until the auction begins at 3pm. You could take a picnic but teas, sandwiches and cakes will be available.
To get there, take the N2 towards Slane and then turn right (R152) for Duleek and continue for 3 miles to a stone archway entrance on the left leading to the drive down to the house.
