A MAJOR exhibition of paintings of Connemara people and landscapes by Armagh-born artist Charles Lamb (1893-1964) is on view at Adam’s AVA Gallery, Clandeboye Estate, Bangor, Co Down.
The paintings are not for sale and are on loan from private collections. David Britton of Adam’s said the exhibition, first shown at the Galway City Museum last year, was the most important exhibition of Lamb’s work in Ireland since a retrospective five years after the artist’s death in 1969 at Dublin’s Hugh Lane Gallery.
Charles Lamb spent many years painting in the west of Ireland.
The exhibition features 38 pictures including Hearing The Newswhich depicts a sight apparently common in the west of Ireland in the 1920s – a group of people by the side of a road collectively reading a newspaper.
The Lamb in Connemaraexhibition runs until February 24th and is open Monday-Friday from 11am to 5pm
