CORK AUCTIONEERS Lynes Lynes will hold an auction at noon next Saturday in its saleroom at the Eastlink Business Park in Carrigtwohill featuring items from historic Cork houses – homes of the famous merchant prince families.
A selection of Irish Georgian furniture from the neo-classical 18th century Dunkathel House (also known as Dunkettle) in Glanmire includes a three-pillar dining table (€40,000-€60,000), 10 dining chairs (€12,000-€15,000), a sideboard (€15,000-€25,000), a semi-circular butler’s drinks table (€20,000-€25,000), a large fruitwood bookcase (€40,000-€60,000), and a pair of side tables (€30,000-€50,000).
A large gilt overmantel mirror made by Richard Harris, a carver and gilder of Hanover Street, Cork and supplied to Dunkathel House in 1837, is estimated at €20,000-€30,000.
The paintings in the sale include a large Belgian seascape by François-Étienne Musin (€30,000-€40,000).
Auctioneer Denis Lynes said the auction also includes “an interesting 19th century terrestrial globe” from a period residence in Glenbrook (€2,000-€3,000) and “early 19th century oak stools bearing the Freke/Evans coat of arms from Lord Carbery’s auction at Castlefreke in 1919” (€30,000-€40,000).
Viewing begins tomorrow at noon and continues throughout the week.
