THE LONG run of success for Jack B Yeats came to a temporary halt at Adam’s art auction on Wednesday evening when both paintings by the artist failed to sell on the night: The Novelist was estimated at €100,000-€150,000 but bidding stalled at €92,000, it later sold for €95,000; while Downpatrick Head, Co Mayo was estimated at €25,000–€35,000 but the highest bid was €24,000.
A painting titled Sunset on a Connemara Bog by Paul Henry made €37,000 (estimate €30,000-€50,000) and was a surprise top seller. Seventy per cent of lots sold. Among them, Organ Grinders by Cecil Galbally made €4,500 (€2,000-€3,000); and Killiney Hill by Peter Collis made €2,800 (€1,500-€2,500).
