Auction results Saturday (July 16th)
At Lynes & Lynes Auctioneers, Carrigtwohill, Cork: Timber ships' models, each measuring 7ft-8ft long and each estimated at €500-€800: New Jersey €2,000; Lusitania €1,550; Yamato €1,300; Titanic model made €1,200; and Bismarck €1,050.
Also, a pair of Georgian cast-iron garden seats €2,050 (€1,000-€1,500); a large antique lead water cistern with owner’s initials WR and dated 1766, €2,000 (€1,000- €2,000).
Tuesday (July 19th) John Weldon Auctioneers, Temple Bar, Dublin. A 1920s diamond aigrette tiara headdress (below) consisting of "a diamond spray convertible to a brooch, also with attachments of a tortoise-shell hair comb, tiara and a crest of white egret's feathers, all in a fitted box by Collingwood & Co of 46 Conduit Street, London, €3,500 (€3,000- €5,000).
There was also an antique diamond and seed pearl bangle in a fitted box by Collingwood & Co, 46 Conduit Street, London, €800 (€500- €700).
Also sold were two lots of antique silver, originally bought in Hancock’s, Burlington Gardens, London, with a copy of an invoice stating that both lots cost a combined total of £5,000 but were now auctioned separately: a silver table centrepiece in the form of a proud standing cockerel with detachable head , made circa 1890, approx 180g, 14in high and 8in at the base, €2,300 (€1,500- €2,500); a pair of continental silver pheasants with movable wings, made circa 1890, approximately 1,123g, €1,300 (€700- €1,200).
