Electrical multiple Currys is to open a large store before Christmas at the Galway Retail Park. The company will be paying a rent of £13.50 per sq ft for the 20,000 sq ft unit on the former Barry Motors site following the relocation of that company to the Motor Park beside the IBIS Hotel. It will be Currys second outlet in the Republic. It has been trading in the Blanchardstown Retail Park since last year and also plans to open a unit of 25,000 sq ft at Liffey Valley Retail Park next year. Terry Cunningham of Cunningham Auctioneers represented Conkier Properties, which is redeveloping the Barr Motors site and Fintan Tierney of Lambert Smith Hampton acted for Currys.

Cunningham Auctioneers is also marketing 26,000 sq ft of retail warehousing at The Plaza, on the Headfort Road beside Galway Shopping centre. A rent of £17 per sq ft is being quoted for the development, which will also include 21,000 sq ft overhead offices. There will also be 38 two-bedroom apartments on the site.
