How does your garden grow? Not terribly well, if you don’t know what you’re doing. Change all that and learn about everything – from planting to propagating, beekeeping to growing your own food with one (or more) of a series of day-long workshops set in the beautiful 27-acre grounds of the Old Rectory, Templebreedy, Crosshaven, Co Cork. Nuala Sullivan and B Fitzgerald are inspired – and inspiring – teachers.
From talks in a classroom in one of the old stables to getting your hands dirty outside, the day courses include morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea. “Gardening should be for everyone,” says Sullivan, who has been planting and sowing for more than 30 years and has never lost her enthusiasm. The class on March 6th will extend the idea of what you can grow in the garden, with a focus on beekeeping. From how to keep hives in your own back garden to the best plants to grow for the tastiest honey, this course (€75 for the day) should create a real buzz.
