Corr Castle, an upmarket apartment development at Howth, Co Dublin, is moving into its second phase this weekend with a total of 29 apartments and penthouses on offer. Prices, which start at £174,000, have not increased since the initial launch last June, according to selling agent Douglas Newman Good.
The 7.8-acre Corr Castle site is on the Howth Road, less than a mile from the village. An attractive centre-piece of the scheme is the historic ruin of the 16th century Corr Castle, now being restored and preserved as part of the landscaping. There are uninterrupted views of the estuary and Howth Head to the east.
Prices are commensurate with the high specification, but are still cheaper than in comparable schemes in sought after areas of south Dublin.
As with the first phase, the apartments are all different in layout and size. One-bedroom units from 649 sq ft start at £174,000, while very large 2000 sq ft penthouses cost up to £620,000 depending on their size and view.
The architect has designed the scheme on a curvilinear theme to complement the circular walls of the old castle. The entrance hall has a pale marble floor and ultra-modern stairs with glass sides and beech hand-rail. There is extensive use of glass block walls to facilitate natural light and nautical-style porthole windows have been included in most of the timber inner doors. Kitchens are fitted with clean-line Arthur Bonnet units in beech and most apartments have balconies large enough to fit a couple of deck chairs.
Six one-bedroom apartments are for sale in this phase. These vary in size from 649 sq ft to 702 sq ft and are priced from £174,000 to £187,500. All have large 14 ft by 17 ft kitchen/sittingrooms. The bedroom is double-sized, with a large en suite shower room and there is also a main bathroom.
Nine two-bedroom units of 890 sq ft to 950 sq ft priced at £260,000 to £285,000 are available on each floor level. The 10 three-bedroom apartments have an average floor space of 969 sq ft and cost from £275,000 to £375,000. Some of these wrap around the end of the building and so have more window space than usual, with plenty of natural light. Most overlook both the golf course next door and the castle. Balconies with these units are 67 sq ft.
Prices for the four penthouses range from £435,000 for one two-bedroom unit to £620,000 for a three-bedroom 2000 sq ft version. These are stunning apartments, with a large balcony off the main bedroom and another off the sittingroom large enough to fit a small dining table. They have a spacious sittingroom with a defined dining area. The kitchen is white, with beech worktops. Storage space is generous and all three bedrooms are doubles with fitted wardrobes.
Landscaping is imaginative and focuses on the castle ruin at the centre of the development.
