Leading hotelier John O'Sullivan has emerged as the purchaser of a high profile site of 3.9 acres in the centre of Maynooth, Co Kildare. He is understood to have paid £7.6 million (9.65m) for the land which was sold on behalf of the receiver for Kavanaghs Mills. There is planning permission for a hotel on the site. Mr O'Sullivan is the owner of two highly successful hotels, the Galway Bay at Salthill in Galway and the Hudson Bay in Athlone.

Garvan Walsh of Insignia Richard Ellis Gunne has now sold three properties as a result of the failure of Kavanaghs Mills. He sold the Dardis & Dunns grain stores in Ashbourne to Dunnes Stores for £5 million (6.35m) and also secured £600,000 (761,842) for Ballytramon Farms, a 70-acre holding in Co Wexford.
