One of the best located houses to have come on the market in Howth in recent years, Shanet on Ceanchor Road, is believed to have sold for around £2 million (€2.54m) after it was withdrawn at auction.

The five-bedroom dormer stands on 1.75 acres of outstanding gardens overlooking the sea. Although a number of interested parties turned up at the Douglas Newman Good auction, there was only a single bid of £1 million (€1.27m) before it was withdrawn by auctioneer Paul Newman. However, in subsequent negotiations the bidder is understood to have agreed to pay close to the guide price of £2 million (€2.54m).

Built in the 1930s, the 2,500 sq ft house has a comfortable layout: a large central living space has a wall of windows which takes maximum advantage of garden and sea views. On either side of this room, lean-to style conservatories can be accessed from the diningroom and the main bedroom so each room has a view of the sea.

There are two further bedrooms and a bathroom at this level. A spiral staircase leads from the hall to the upper floor where there are two further bedrooms, one of them leading to a central sittingroom-cum-library.
