Bargain Hunter: Giraffe lights, reindeer rugs and Bambi chairs

Irish-manufactured Acme Blinds (021-4280400, acmeblinds.ie) is offering Irish Times readers who present today’s column 10 per cent off its Vision Duo range, an opaque and translucent striped design that allows you to play with the amount of light the blind lets through. Pictured is the Tuscany, an embossed timber-effect design that can be made in any size up to 2.2m wide.

The windows pictured are approximately 1.2m by 1.4m and the blinds cost about €240. For €99, Acme can also motorise existing roller blinds, eliminating unsightly and potentially dangerous cords. The remote control, which can operate up to five blinds, costs an additional €20. The offer ends on November 30th.

Caseys Furniture (caseys.ie) in Cork (021-2427999) and Limerick (061- 514200) is getting into the festive spirit with Dali, a three-seat sofa. It is in the style of the great surrealist’s collaboration with wealthy British eccentric Edward James who together designed surrealist furniture for his Lutyens-designed property Monkton House. The lips sofa was inspired by Mae West’s rosebud- shaped pout. This curved confection has button detailing and curves that the sex siren would be proud of.

Reduced from €1,599 to €749, it is almost half price. Also reduced is a Planet pedestal table by Calligaris, down 33 per cent, from €730 to €488. The Camden king size was €699 and is now down 43 per cent, to €399, while stocks last.

This is an idea that will work in any room but is especially delightful in a baby’s nursery. The decorative detail double jobs as a night light. A piece of giraffe-shaped mdf can be cut to order and set in relief against the wall. While it doesn’t take up too much space it adds much-needed illumination to a small child or baby’s room. Designed by Dún Laoghaire-based Catherine Murphy (01-2300738, re-interiors.ie) for one of the Colortrend stands at the recent Ideal Homes Show at the RDS, it costs €220, excluding delivery.
