A Dublin landmark, the Rochestown Lodge Hotel on Rochestown Avenue, Dun Laoghaire, known to many south-siders for its collection of architectural styles, is to be extensively redeveloped.

According to proposals lodged with Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council recently, Blackrock Inns Limited has applied to demolish part of the hotel and alter the exterior as well as internal arrangements such as bars, kitchens and parking. The scheme envisages the demolition of 17 bedrooms, the ballroom and toilets, three lounge bars and ancillary rooms.

There will also be alterations to the retained portion of the hotel building including the incorporation of existing balcony areas into bedrooms and alterations to second floor roof over main entrance.

Internal alterations include seven new bedrooms and a one-bedroom apartment, relocation of the existing kitchen and an extension of the existing dining room/conservatory. Also envisaged are 120 car-parking spaces at basement and ground floor levels.
