THE CO KERRY holiday home of the late High Court judge Dermot Kinlen is for sale for €310,000. Kinlough House, which stands on 14 acres between Sneem and Derrynane near Bunnow Harbour, is habitable, but needs extensive refurbishment.
Built in the early 1970s, the 125sq m (1,350sq ft) house has four bedrooms, a sittingroom, kitchen and a conservatory. It has extensive gardens. It is for sale through Killarney agent Tom Spillane.
The former High Court judge, who became Inspector of Prisons after his retirement, died in 2007. He was a well-known host, and many politicians, ambassadors and legal people visited his Co Kerry home. It is about 100 metres up the road from Bunnow Harbour, on the sea side of the road, and has good sea views, according to the agent.
His Ballsbridge home, Wentworth, was withdrawn from auction at €7 million in May this year. A collection of furniture, silver and porcelain from the Merrion Road house was a highlight of fine art sales in spring this year.
Purchasers of his Co Kerry holiday home might get permission to rebuild on the existing site.
