There’s a certain cachet attached to owning a period property whether it be an artisan cottage, a Victorian redbrick or a Georgian townhouse but, as the saying goes, with age also comes great responsibility.

The Irish Georgian Society and Dublin City Council are running a series of 12 weekly lunchtime lectures at 63 Merrion Square starting February 12th on the care and repair of period homes.

Lectures include “My house is a protected structure, what does that mean? (February 19th), “Sensitively extending your period home”(April 16th), and “Cracks, subsidence and structural alterations” (April 23rd).

One lecture that’s particularly pertinent is on energy performance in protected structures (March 12).
