Interior designer Joanna Woodworth (01-497 3792) kept the decor of the livingroom of Woodbrook House light and airy and true to the property's origins as an Edwardian summer house.
The woodwork was painted in Farrow Ball Old White, which is softer on wood than brilliant white and contrasts well with Farrow Ball White Tie, a cream that suits older houses.
The floors are in semi-solid oak with a natural oil finish. Imported from the Netherlands, they cost around €105 a sq m from Woodbrokers (01-215 7296).
The dark oak of the floors blends well with the ceiling beams, which are original. The ceiling between the beams is new and lower than the original. It has mini-multiple trimless recessed lighting, which is designed to blend seamlessly into the ceiling. It is by Modular, a Belgian company, and stocked at onepointtwo (01-709 9000) .
The antique sofa has been in the house for around 15 years and is upholstered in a pretty floral print. To get the look try Romo's Arianne Collection of fabrics, available in many fabric shops. A settee of this period, and condition, would cost around €4,500 says Chantal O'Sullivan of O'Sullivan Antiques (01-454 1143).
A similar Victorian table costs around €9,500 and a set of 10 Victorian balloon-back dining chairs would be about €10,000. Two contemporary Fogia soft chairs from Inreda (01-476 0362) jolt the room out of the early 20th century. Another Scandinavian touch are the Ikea wool rugs in the living and dining areas. The original windows were restored by a team which included Dip Strip (01-280 5606).
