Co Meath: Zephyr Lodge, a restored mid-Victorian house in Kells, Co Meath, is to be auctioned on September 23rd by Navan agent T&JGavigan, guiding €550,000.
The four-bedroom house on 2.5 acres is attributed to architect John Skipton Mulvany, who designed the former Harcourt Street rail station.
Built as a dower house for the nearby Williamson Estate, the property is sheltered by an array of original trees, including a wonderful Spanish chestnut which forms a centre-piece on the front lawn.
The restoration project was meticulously carried out, down to original sash windows with working shutters and decorative coving.
A pine-floored entrance hall includes a cast-iron fireplace. Off this is the diningroom, with an Italian marble fireplace and polished wood floor. The drawingroom also has a marble fireplace and double windows, one with a built-in seat.
Old-style cream kitchen units are complemented by a stone-tiled floor and a connecting dining area which is warmed by a wood-burning stove.
Also at this level is a boot room, utility room, butler's pantry and shower room.
All four bedrooms are timber-floored, three with intact period fireplaces. The family bathroom also has a period look, and is fitted with a claw-foot bath and has pitch pine flooring.
The magical gardens include a brook with a stone bridge, a gazebo, two-storey coach-house, seven loose boxes and a tack room.
