Dalkey: €6.5mSanta Maria, a large detached house in Dalkey whose garden featured in Hugh Leonard's play Da, will be auctioned on May 30th. The big Victorian house stands above the village on Cunningham Road, a short walk from the Dart. It has a large front garden but most of the back garden has been taken for development, leaving a total of 0.6 acres with the house.

The rest of the site is being sold separately - asking €20 million - with planning permission to build large contemporary style house and apartments.

Santa Maria, which has been refurbished in a cool minimalist style, is to be auctioned by Gunne with an AMV of €6.5 million. You get a lot of house for your money: 557sq m (5,995sq ft) of living space that includes eight bedrooms, and a separate coach-house with planning permission to be converted to a mews.

Originally used as a Quaker meeting house, it has a suitably plain interior that the owner - property developer Wesley Curran - has enhanced using modern furniture and a neutral palette. There are five reception rooms at hall level, including a diningroom that opens through to a big airy drawingroom with a bay window. There is also a sittingroom that connects to a conservatory and then a study. The bedrooms are on three levels with the finest rooms on the first floor with sea views.
