Portmarnock: €1.1mA five-bedroom house in Portmarnock looks unusual and has lots of high-end creature comforts, writes Kate McMorrow
Flying timber and steel buttresses, dormers angled skywards and a very luxurious interior mark out Melrose as undoubtedly an architect-designed home.
Over €1.1 million is the private treaty asking price with Douglas Newman Good for this unusual five-bedroom house, one of three newly-built on Suncroft Avenue, Portmarnock. The owner, who specialises in building one-off properties, commissioned architect Paul Keenan to design the three houses.
While the exterior is somewhat unusual, the interior has all the top quality fixtures and fittings people look for in a high-end property. Floors are light oak throughout, apart from porcelain in the hall and kitchen areas, bathroom ware is from a designer range and two of the five bedrooms have en suite showers. A walk-in wardrobe is part of the main bedroom suite.
But it is the ground floor that has the "wow" factor. An airy oak-floored sittingroom has several windows, French doors to the garden and a smart French-style fireplace.
A large kitchen/breakfastroom sports high-gloss vanilla units with walnut panels and polished granite worktops. An oak butcher block is built into the counter top and all appliances are integrated, including a five-ring hob.
The garden is ready lawned and planted, with a broad terrace.
