MALAHIDE: €2.5M:FROM THE outside, Evergreen on Church Road in Malahide, Co Dublin appears to be a fine example of an arts and crafts style house complete with pebbled forecourt and creeping ivy.

Look closer and all is not quite as it seems. While the left hand side of the house is the real deal, built in the 1930s, the right hand side was built in the 1990s and and won a regional RIAI award – for the refurb and extension that doubled its original size.

O’Farrell Cleere is quoting in the region of €2. 5 million for the five-bed house which is on 0.3 of an acre of grounds that include a pond, and a shomera that’s currently used as a gym.

Only a few minutes from the hubbub of Malahide village, it has three good-sized reception rooms including a big livingroom-cum-diningroom and a family room with a bay window, open fire and a door to a courtyard.

The kitchen is homey with exposed brick, a green Aga and a Belfast sink and has a dining area as well as doors onto the courtyard. The sunroom to the rear of the house has a curved feature wall of windows overlooking the garden and a spiral staircase leading to the attic, which has been divided into two rooms and has eaves storage.

Wine buffs might drool when they see the basement – a temperature-controlled wine cellar. Upstairs, the main bedroom opens onto a balcony and has an en suite, as does a second bedroom.
