Architect Martin Noone likes to sign his work. Embedded into a chimney stack on each house is a vertical line of about five tiles, a decorative flourish that is his signature and makes each design feel like a work of art.
Elisnore is one of three developments in Delgany by the Dún Laoghaire-based architect. Situated in the centre of the village and constructed in the early 2000s, this is a small estate of sizeable, two-storey detached houses, a couple of townhouses and the original period property that has been sub-divided into four apartments.
Part of the deal struck between the developers and the then owner of the period house was that a home to her requirements be built within the scheme. Noone say this is the reason it is the only single-storey dwelling within the estate. It backs onto Delgany’s national school and if the next owner has children a little gate in the fence would have them at their desks in about two minutes.
This charming house was built back to front, so the back of the property faces west and even on wet days you can sit under the verandah and enjoy the vista, thanks to its smoked glass top.
