Edel Morgan's Home Truthsblog this week, Northside versus Southside (see irishtimes.com/ blogs) received 43 comments at the time of writing. A humorous look at which side of the city is better to live on, many of the comments were entertaining and insightful. Here's a flavour:
CV:The northside has more space for recreation, we have the airport without a cross town commute, we have signposts clearly telling us where each place starts and ends (take note RathminesHarolds CrossRanelaghclonskeaghland).
John F McCullagh:OK, then but why are the statues on the northside's O'Connell Street looking south? In admiration, perhaps, or – more likely – looking for deliverance?
Stephen H:The beaches on the southside are completely inferior – all short, rocky and stony, compared with the long velvet strand in Portmarnock, and other excellent beaches in Donabate, Malahide, Dollymount, Skerries.
Brian Cahill:Having grown up in Marino and used the seafront in Clontarf almost daily, I would still prefer to live on the southside. I remember when I was young taking the Dart to Bray and being amazed at all the beautiful coastal stops along the way, Clontarf and even Howth do not compare.
Scarecrows of the Stipe:I've lived in Drumcondra , Portobello, East Wall, Ringsend, and the Liberties. I would have to say I prefer the Southside. Seeing as I'm not from Dublin, I'm unbiased.
Ewan:I am one of the defectors from the Southside to the Northside. Almost 30 years here now and it's home. I would not go back, but still feel like a blow in!!
