The Downs House in Delgany, Co Wickow, derives its name from its elevated site above the Glen of the Downs, on the old N11 which has now been bypassed.
The owners of the house are now selling off the typically Victorian gate lodge, which will be auctioned by the Bray office of Jackson Stops on October 4th. The one-bedroom house has a guide of £200,000 (€253,950).
Gate lodges in Wicklow don't often come on the market and this one is on two-thirds of an acre of woodland. It has been rented out for the past seven years but has been well cared for in that time.
This is a small house but there is clearly potential to enlarge it and improve the living space which presently comprises a living area and kitchen. Above this is a small mezzanine loft area which is accessed by retractable steps.
A spiral staircase leads down to the bathroom and bedroom at garden level. The bedroom opens out into the garden.
