Golf ResortsIf Lisa-Marie Presley had gotten her way, Marlfield House near Clonmel would have been just another celebrity hideaway in the Irish countryside.

Elvis's daughter wanted to buy the country mansion for herself when it came on the market quietly around two years ago, but after lengthy negotiations, it was bought instead by the Kent family who had farmed the land around it for over 30 years.

The purchase of the house crystallised plans for the 400-acre estate which is now to be turned into an exclusive golf resort with a course designed by Padraig Harrington.

It's the first venture of this kind for the Irish golfer who's following in the footsteps of Jack Nicklaus (Mount Juliet); Arnold Palmer (K Club), Colin Montgomerie (Carton House) and Greg Norman (Doonbeg).

The resort will include a 70-bedroom hotel based at the original house which is to be adapted by architects Murray O'Laoire, who also designed the hotel at Carton House.
