LIKE many a vendor these days former politician Pat Coxhad been hoping to sell his family home in Cork quietly, but after a few very slow weeks, selling agents Irish European are now beginning to market the house in earnest.

The former EU president of the European Parliament has been living at Ashboro, Shanakiel in the northside suburb of Sunday’s Well for 16 years but the time has come to downsize: he and his wife Cathy want to be closer to their children and grandchildren in Dublin.

They’re leaving behind a detached 1960s five-bed house which they hope to sell for €675,000. Estate agent Joe McCarthy of Irish European – who was once Pat Cox’s campaign manager says the location is popular.

Located just above Shanakiel hospital, visually the house is very much of its era with a clematis-covered loggia to the front and, inside, wide expanses of polished parquet lending a suitable European feel.
