Fingal County Council's decision to grant planning permission for a major 1,519 unit housing scheme at Balbriggan has been appealed to An Bord Pleanβla. Parkway Properties had received permission for the development in the townlands of Flemingtown and Bremore, west and south of Hamlet Lane, in Balbriggan, Co Dublin.

The proposed development includes differing styles of housing ranging from one-bedroom houses to apartments, a single-storey creche of around 510sqm and a mixed use local service centre in three-storey buildings comprising a convenience shop, newsagent and five additional retail units as well as a pharmacy, dental practice, doctors' surgery, health centre, library and pub. Also proposed is a restaurant, a number of open spaces or parks and improved car access via Hamlet Lane, linking to the Drogheda Road (N1). Further access is proposed via a new road connecting to the existing Inner Relief Road and a portion of the development will ultimately be accessed via a new road network off the planned dual carriageway.

Provision is also made for part of a bus corridor to cater for future local link and demolition of a house on Hamlet Lane. In all, the lands extend to about 53 hectares. An Environmental Impact Statement accompanies the application.

The Dublin firm Kelland Homes has applied for planning permission for a 145 apartment scheme on a site at Cabinteely in south Co Dublin. The three-and-a-half acre site currently carries permission for just 11 homes. In what is surely one of the most remarkable pieces of revisionism the firm is seeking to develop six blocks of two-bed apartments instead of the 11 houses at Yellow Nook, Johnstown Road, Cabinteely. The plan, submitted to D·n Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, envisages one three-storey block and five five-storey blocks over basement car-parking.
