THE SELLERS: Jenny and Ian Noctor:What and where: Three-bedroom, two-bathroom redbrick at 6 Shandon Road, Phibsborough, Dublin 7 - the first home of Cardinal Desmond Connell who lived there until he was six years of age.
Describe the house
Shandon is a development of Edwardian houses built in the early years of the 20th century. We've refurbished and extended the house over the last four years as well as landscaping the 40ft back garden. Shandon is just a mile from the Liffey but is unique in that it has its own 18 hole pitch and putt course which is a wonderful facility. The two reception rooms are interconnecting with double doors leading to the kitchen/breakfast room. Upstairs there is a bathroom and three bedrooms two of which are doubles.
Why are you moving?
We're looking for a new project!
What's the best thing about the house?
There's great flow to the downstairs of the house and out into the garden which makes it great for summer parties. The high ceilings, original fireplaces, coving and sash windows give a lovely old world yet homely feel to the house. The fact that it's a 20-minute walk to town is a real plus too.
And the neighbourhood?
Shandon is a wonderful friendly neighbourhood with a thriving community. The kids play on the streets and the residents' association throw great parties in Mt Bernard Park during the summer.
It's also a great mix of old and new Dublin with many young families moving to Shandon in recent times. The rejuvenated shopping area and nearby Metro are going to make the area even more desirable in years to come.
Who'd like your home?
Anyone with an eye for design who is looking for something other than a standard shoebox apartment. A first-time buyer who wants a spacious pad with parking in the city centre or someone who wants the option to work from home.
